Thanksgiving Day is here once more
A year did come and go
I thought I’d write a poem today
With the theme being “Although.”
Although ‘19 had finished strong
With a future that looked bright
A virus brewed across the sea
That would prove us wrong, not right.
Although we celebrated
At birthdays; weddings too
We’d soon be sitting all alone
To avoid this “Chinese Flu.”
Though New Years passed without a hitch
And the Super Bowl was played
All the while people asked,
"Could this really spread our way?"
And then came old Saint Patrick’s Day
We donned our suits of green
But as the whiskey shots ran dry
We had to quarantine.
Although we learned to cope and deal
Through Zoom’s virtual talks
Our feet have all grown weary from
These stupid little walks.
If that was it, we might be fine
But the year did not relent
Murder hornets, Tiger King
And our Tweeting President.
Twenty twenty piled on
The election felt like years
Thousands died, more every day
The world was moved to tears.
Although the last three sixty five
Seem bleak and dark and slow
I’d be remiss to not explain
Why I’m Thankful for it too.
Although we couldn’t fraternize
At bars or work or school
We reconnected with old friends
And I think that’s pretty cool.
Yes, we couldn’t travel
That wasn’t any fun
But skies got clean as cars stayed home
And lowered congestion.
Although the Office of the Prez
Might be beyond repair
At least in two months time we’ll have
Some sanity in there.
Although this virus keeps on coming
As it has been since ‘19
It seems that in a few short weeks
We’ll have our first vaccine.
And so, on this Thanksgiving
Although things aren’t at their best
Don’t forget the positives
As your year’s being assessed.
I’ll take a verse to thank you all
For these emails I compile
And let me send to you each week
In the hope that you might smile.
So now, go on. Go eat your food
Though you might miss some tradition
I’ll be here, ‘cause my name’s Scott
And this is Scott’s Edition.
