Lent begins with Ash Wednesday next week

Anticipating an announcement about the current lockdown this Monday makes it difficult to reveal Ash Wednesday plans in our parish just yet. Watch the ebulletin and the website for updates.

A small change to our live stream

The Sunday Mass stream is now streamed through YouTube. Joining the stream hasn't changed in any way: it can be accessed by clicking "Watch Live" on our website, or at stjoes.online.church.

Pope Francis announced this year to be the Year of St. Joseph, patron saint of the Universal Church, Canada and our parish! This year provides an opportunity to reflect on the many lessons that can be found in the life of our patron saint and prompts us to seek the intercession of this holy man.

What to expect

As the year (and the hopeful defeat of COVID-19) progresses, more plans may develop. But, here's what you can expect so far between now and December 8th:

As a parish community, we will pray the Novena of St. Joseph on the days leading up to the feast of St. Joseph in March.
Before the celebration of Benediction, we will pray the Litany of St. Joseph
Prayer cards for the year will be available later.
We will pray the prayer of St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary, before each Sunday Mass (beginning January 23rd)

Let us pray that this year bears some wonderful fruit for our parish, nation and Church!

For the last 3 years, Sarah has worked with dedication in our parish office. Her organizational skills, friendly approach and unique perspective has ensured that the parish office has effectively served all who have come to the door.

Our church is also very fortunate to have benefit from the generous service of Janet who has assisted greatly in the office for the past 7 years. Her experience and sagacity has offered great support to the smooth operations of our parish office.

Shortly, both Sarah and Janet will be shifting their service and moving on to new challenges. We give thanks to God for the service these two have offered our parish and pray for them as they continue their journey. We'll miss their service in these roles, but know we will all continue to benefit from the gifts God has given them.

Job Opening at St. Joseph Church

St. Joseph Church in Bowmanville is accepting applications for a part-time Administrative Assistant who will serve the needs of the community by keeping the parish office operating smoothly, by being a frontline contact and by working with a pastoral team to share and live the Good News. Free Poinsettias

Our church looked beautiful for Christmas, thanks to the many who contributed to Christmas flowers and spent many hours decorating.

Christmas may be over and most of the decoration put away, but the poinsettias in our church are still there and in good health; they will have to be removed for Lent, however. So, between now and Ash Wednesday, feel free to take one home after Adoration or one of the daily Masses.
