Artists get all the credit for a good comic strip, but I think it’s the writing that really makes or breaks them. To really focus on the writing, I’ve removed those pesky cartoons and will simply explain the comic strip. I think this will create a much more enjoyable experience for the reader.
Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for March 29, 2021
In panel one, Rat is watching Pig write something on a piece of paper. Rat asks, "Hey. Whatcha doing Pig?"
To which Pig responds, "Trying to write puns. Here's one... 'I tended a crowded bar'."
In the second panel, Rat is confused as he replies, "Where's the pun?"
Pig states, "The word 'Tended'."
In the third panel, Rat is still confused as he explains, "There's no pun in that word."
Pig comes back with, "No pun in 'Tended'?"
In the final panel, Rat is now in comic strip writer Stephan Pastis's office. Rat tells him, "You make me drink to excess."
Get it?!? Stephan Pastis's puns have turned Rat into an alcoholic! What's funnier than that?!?
